Chapter fourteen – Watching what you say Jessica Wakefield grinned as her and Jeremy were out on a date. The place they were at was totally romantic. Jessica smiled, as she reached out for Jeremy’s hand. “So, how was school today?” Jeremy asked in that tentative voice of his. Jessica grinned. This was her opening. “I love having Liz on the squad with me, she’s the greatest, and the Regionals in cheerleading are coming up.” Jessica said with a smile. “Although something weird did happen today at cheerleading. “Can you believe Lila was being nice, and bringing up good times that we used to have. It was really weird.” Jessica said shaking her head. “Maybe she realises she can’t do without you.” Jeremy said with a half joking, half serious expression. “I mean, it could be your lovely personality, but that only goes so far.” Jeremy said with a giggle. Jessica scowled and threw her napkin at him. “It’s a good thing, you’re cute.” Jessica said trying to cover a smile. “Is that so?” Jeremy asked, as he looked into Jessica’s eyes. “Yes it is.” Jessica said in a matter of fact tone, as she glanced at him. “Now how about you macho man, what did you do at school?” Jeremy swatted her hand playfully. “Well, we had football practice, and I went to classes, and ate my lunch.” Jeremy replied straight away. “Ooh, you went to eat your lunch. Keep it up happy camper.” Jessica said, in a motherly tone. “You need to keep your energy up.” “Ooh, I agree with that one, I need all the energy I can get, just looking at you.” Jessica grinned. What was in store for them? She never wanted this moment to end. Conner McDermott was strumming his guitar, trying to pick up a tone, that sounded half decent, but all he could think about was Alanna and Liz, and their little cheerleading battle. They were turning into the Rah Rah girls. Part of it was amusing, but seriously, was this all over him? It was kind of hilarious, to see Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield side by side with the exact same cheerleading uniform. But he could always tell Liz apart from Jessica. Her expression looked more defiant than anything, and Jessica just kept smiling, and launching into the cheers with positive energy. Elizabeth had energy alright. But he could tell the vibes behind it. Just forget her man. Conner told himself. You are with Alanna now, she’s all that matters. Conner glanced over to the window. Things used to be more simple before he met either of them. He was a player on the field with the girls, and he always had his close friends. Who am I kidding? I can’t do that to Alanna. At least cheerleading takes her mind off drinking he thought. Elizabeth Wakefield woke up in the morning feeling more like her old self. Why am I being so harsh toward Alanna. I mean, it was Conner that chose her over me. It’s like we have this cold hard war going on. Elizabeth thought in frustration. But why would Conner stay with her? Elizabeth got dressed as quickly as possible, and grabbed a bagel on her way out. “I hope to catch that girl, before things get out of hand.” She whispered, feeling a bit better about things. After all, the bigger the chance that Conner would want her, if she was friends with Alanna. The outcome looked interesting if anything. Alanna Feldman was standing by her locker, wishing that she could just have something cold to drink. A beer or something. This whole cheerleading thing was a great distraction from it, but what about when cheerleading finished. Alanna glanced inside her locker. Oh yeah, I look the same, not much has changed there, apart from those dark circles under her eyes. Just a lack of sleep, she thought as she closed the locker door. Alanna sighed and turned around, to see Elizabeth Wakefield standing there. Alanna narrowed her eyes, what did the girl want? “Yes.” Alanna said impatiently. Elizabeth looked down. “I just came to apologise, on the way I have been treating you. I’m not like that at all.” Elizabeth blurted out. “I know, that I’ve been a bit mean and everything, and anyway, just sorry.” Elizabeth said really meaning it, as she said it. “I guess, that’s all I have to say.” Elizabeth said about to walk away. “Wait, thanks.” Alanna said as she put her hands loosely in the back pocket of her pants, feeling a bit awkward. “See ya around.” Elizabeth said with a smile. Things were looking up finally. Journal entries Alanna Feldman Elizabeth finally talking to me. What is up with that? Elizabeth Wakefield I could never imagine myself apologising to Alanna, but weirdly enough, it felt great. But don't expect me to do that to Conner.... Jessica Wakefield Mmm, Jeremy...Regionals...And a nice tub of cookie dough ice cream. Yumm... |
