Conner McDermott arrived at SVH very early on Thursday morning, and decided it was now or never. He was waiting for Alanna to arrive at school. It was something he had decided last night. His decision, was to be a single man again, and stay off girls, he decided they were too much heart ache and pain. He wanted to get this thing over and done with, before anyone else could interfere. He then spotted Alanna talking to Elizabeth Wakefield over in a corner. Okay, so very early, was only early by everyone else’s standards. Conner was usually very late. Alanna grinned when she saw him. He didn’t want to move any closer. Elizabeth only arched one eyebrow in reproach. “I’ll see you later in cheerleading Alanna.” Elizabeth said, and gave her a quick smile. This was also something that really irked Conner. Suddenly those two were like best of friends. Well, he could see why compared with Maria, who Conner thought of as a snobby nosy person. Alanna looked him over, as Elizabeth walked down the corridor. “So what’s up Conner?” Alanna asked, trying to work out by looking in his eyes. “Um, yeah, Alanna, we need to talk.” Alanna just frowned. “About what?” she asked, her eyes darting all over the place, anywhere but on Conner. “I, uh, just don’t think things are working out between us.” He said, in about the fullest sentence he had ever said. “So yeah.” Was all he added, when Alanna didn’t say anything. The bell then rang out of nowhere, which covered the awkward silence. Alanna just stood her ground, and whispered quietly. “It’s me isn’t it? I knew it was”, before running off down the hall. Conner just stared, and looked down. “It’s more like me.” He said to no one. Alanna Feldman couldn’t believe it. Conner had dumped her. Just like that, dumped. Well what had she done exactly? She tried to be a nice girlfriend, get along with his friends, but that was just not good enough. Maybe it was just her as a person. Alanna then took in her surroundings. She was in some bathroom, and she looked like an awful wreck. Alanna laughed out loud. If only her mother could see her. She would have an awful fit, before demanding that Alanna go have a shower, wash her face, anything to cover up what Alanna was really feeling. Alanna quickly glanced at her watch. She had better go to her first period class. She could do it, she could. Alanna heard another bell ring. And the sound, just brought tears to her eyes. “I can’t take this anymore, I need to get out of here.” Alanna took off down the hall as fast as her legs could carry her, and straight out into the parking lot. She needed to get away from SVH, but to where? She needed to find a place to be all alone or even better, a place just to drown her misery. Maybe she could go watch a movie or something, and sob all over popcorn and icecream. Now that sounded like a plan. Tia Ramirez was munching on a carrot stick at lunch time in the cafeteria. The only person sitting with her was Jessica, who seemed a bit distracted. Tia decided to start conversation. “Did you know that carrots are meant to help your eyesight.” Tia stated matter-of-factly. Jessica nodded. “Yep, that’s what makes bunnies eyes so good.” She said grinning. So the choice of topic wasn’t that interesting, but at least Jessica was paying some attention. Tia wondered where everyone was. She knew Andy was going through some stuff with his parents, but how about Evan, Elizabeth or even Maria. Where were these people? Since when did they have lives. Jessica stared gazing out at the table. “School is really starting to drain me.” Tia rambled. “All the tests. And soon we’ll have exams. It just sucks. I’m ready for my break.” Tia announced. “Do you know what college you want to go to Tee?” Jessica asked, with a frown. “Probably as much as you Jess. You know my parents want me to go some place local. I might, but I don’t know yet.” Tia replied. “I know how you feel. I can’t decide what I want to do with my life.” Jessica looked at Tia. “We could both be professional cheerleaders, we are good enough.” Jessica said raising an eyebrow. “Yeah, and with the Nationals coming up very soon, we will be at the top of our game.” Tia said winking. “Yeah, and then after that is the prom.” Jessica said grinning. “I know.” Tia sighed. “Who will I go with? I could always go with Andy, I'm sure he wouldn’t mind.” Jessica smiled. “I could set you up with one of Jeremy’s friends.” She said. “I’m sure they could put up with you Tee.” Tia just scowled. “Put up with me? What’s that supposed to mean.” Tia asked jumping to her own defense, while Jessica just laughed. “There’s a party on this Saturday night at Big Mesa. We should so go along.” Jessica said. “Plenty of fish in the sea for you Tee. Look, I’m even rhyming.” Jessica noted. Tia said. “Well, a party could be good. We could see if the others also want to come along.” Jessica agreed, a party would be good. She needed to take Liz out of the land of funk-ville and in to the land of set-up ville. Maybe Tia and Liz could both be set up, Jessica thought, scheming up a plan. And for this plan, she would need Jeremy’s help. Just wait until Saturday night, Jessica thought, grinning secretly. Elizabeth Wakefield, felt she was neglecting her duty at The Oracle. She was so busy with Cheerleading these days. So at lunch time she was sitting at her desk, typing up a report on Peer Pressure, and how it affected High School students. Elizabeth was almost finished, when she felt a tap on her shoulder. “Hey Liz.” Came this voice. Elizabeth turned around. “Hey Maria.” She said, knowing for a fact that they had hardly spoken to each other. “So how’s cheerleading affecting you?” Maria asked with a smile. “It’s actually rather vigorating, Maria, you should try it.” Elizabeth said. Maria made a mock face. “Me? In a short miniskirt, waving pom poms? I have yet to see that day.” Elizabeth felt her face heat up a little, but she knew her friend was only joking. “Yeah, well, I guess it’s better than being stuck in an office all day.” Elizabeth said, partly joking. Maria glanced at her. “Liz are you feeling okay?” “Just fine Maria. I’m catching up on some work I need to do here. But I can ring you after cheerleading if you want?” Elizabeth said, really wanting her space right now. “Oh, okay, tonight? I’m going out with my parents. I’ll talk to you more tomorrow.” Maria said, sounding slightly deflated. Elizabeth just sighed. It was one friendship after another. The last thing she wanted was for her and Maria to drift apart. I’ll work it out tomorrow, Elizabeth thought, as she got back to typing. Melissa Fox was doing a set of jumps in cheerleading practice that afternoon, along with the rest of the squad. She knew there was a party coming up on Saturday night, which she might actually go along to with Tom. That would be a good thing, since they were now a couple. Melissa smiled. MelissaandTom, just the way she liked. She scrunched up her nose as she heard Cherie’s high pitched laugh, and Gina’s over-embellished loud voice. She so did not need them as friends. Her eyes glanced at the rest of the squad. Jessica looked deep in thought, probably over something small, whereas Elizabeth looked concerned about something. Speaking of which, Alanna Feldman hadn’t even come to practice. Where was that girl? Wait till Coach wrung her neck. But they needed her on the squad. They were all part of a team. Melissa sighed. She just wanted to get out of cheerleading practice. The feeling in the air was very miserable. She hated her friends talking behind her back, and in some cases, very loudly, in front of her, but not to her. It hacked Melissa off. Well, she didn’t need friends like that anyhow. Journal entries Alanna Feldman I am sitting at the movie theatre watching some old movie in black and white starring Lucille Ball and Bob Hope. It’s rather funny she thought. The Facts of Life or something was what it was called. About a man and woman that are having this affair type thing, but realise they actually like their own partners instead, and go back to them. I just hope Conner realises this, and comes back to me. Conner McDermott I hope Alanna will be okay. I don’t want her back, the thing is I don't want any girl right at this moment, and I just hope she doesn’t do anything stupid. Elizabeth Wakefield Where did Alanna go? She was going to meet me in cheerleading, maybe she got sick or something. And Maria, that girl could also take some more effort to speak to me more at other times. She could see I was busy today. Maybe, we could do something on the weekend. Jessica Wakefield Scheming. Hmm, I can’t think of anything yet. But sparks should hopefully fly at the party. |
